Impact Spotlight

DC Prep

When DC Prep’s Director of Development left, the school brought in FundEd Strategies to manage all of the organization’s grants. Since joining the DC Prep team, we’ve helped them:

  • Develop a grant tracking system to keep up on deadlines and applications.

  • Identified critical private and public grant opportunities to support their pandemic relief efforts.

  • Worked in collaboration with the DC Prep team to develop spending plans for federal and local grants.

  • Proactively identified grant opportunities on behalf of the school.

  • Wrote and submitted all of the school’s grant proposals, reports, and letters of interest.

  • Secured $1.2 million to support literacy intervention efforts over three years.

Our Impact

SOAR Facilities

In 2023, four out of the six SOAR Facilities Awards, were awarded to FundEd partners, raising over $2.5 million in support of our partners: Washington Latin Public Charter School, Center City Public Charter Schools, Thurgood Marshall Academy, and Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School. The grant supports over 3,000 students across our partner schools, bolstering facility upgrades and the building of new schools, and will have a positive impact on student outcomes, creating more opportunities for students to learn and grow.

Yield Prize

McKenzie Scott launched the Yield Prize to support small nonprofits across the country. We are proud that our partner, Spark the Journey, has received a $2 million award. This unrestricted gift—the largest in our thirty-year history—will significantly increase the impact Spark can make in the Washington D.C. region. It enables us to further our mission of preparing more Black and Brown young adults from D.C.'s low-income communities for college and career success through mentoring.

School Expansion

Through various grant opportunities, including federal funding, we have supported schools in expanding both their campuses and programming. Through the U.S. Department of Education’s Charter School Program, we secured $900,000 to support Eagle Academy's expansion to a third campus and secured $2.3 million to help Mundo Verde Institute implement best practices for recruiting and training bilingual educators.
